Tuifly flight diverts to Ibiza after weather radar fault
A Tuifly Boeing 737 Max 8 flying from Palma de Mallorca to Düsseldorf diverted to Ibiza after its cockpit weather radar malfunctioned, with bad weather blocking a return to Palma.
A Tuifly flight from Palma de Mallorca to Düsseldorf made an unscheduled landing on Ibiza on the evening of August 28, according to a report by Mallorca Zeitung. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 Max 8 operating as flight X32323, had a malfunction in its cockpit weather radar shortly after leaving Palma.
The crew first planned to turn back to Palma de Mallorca. But the airport was temporarily closed at the time because of poor weather, so the crew diverted to Ibiza instead.
Technicians repaired the faulty weather radar once the aircraft was on the ground in Ibiza. It resumed its journey to Düsseldorf the following afternoon, on Saturday.
No injuries or further complications were reported in connection with the diversion.
