US seeks $30bn more for air traffic control after Northeast outage
A day after a telecommunications failure disrupted air traffic across the Northeast, the US transportation secretary said the administration will ask Congress for an additional $30 billion for aviation infrastructure and ATC modernization.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the administration will ask Congress for another $30 billion for aviation infrastructure and air traffic control modernization. He spoke one day after a telecommunications failure disrupted air traffic across much of the Northeast.
Monday's outage halted or restricted operations at several large airports, among them Newark Liberty International, New York JFK, LaGuardia and Philadelphia International. Around 9,500 US flights were delayed or cancelled and more than 100 diversions were recorded.
