The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate specific committed-to-stop points in aircraft flight manuals.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a safety recommendation, designated as A-11-018, addressed to the Federal Aviation Administration. This directive urges the agency to require manufacturers of both newly certificated and in-service turbine-powered aircraft to include a committed-to-stop point within the landing sequence in their Aircraft Flight Manuals. The recommendation specifies that this point should be established at a stage where a go-around should no longer be attempted, citing the deployment of lift dump as an example for aircraft such as the Hawker Beechcraft 125-800A. This measure aims to standardize critical decision points during landing operations to enhance aviation safety protocols.
