NTSB Issues Recommendation A-11-050 to FAA for Alaska Weather Data Relay Program

The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a safety recommendation, designated as A-11-050 and associated with reference number ANC10MA068, directed at the Federal Aviation Administration. This directive calls for the implementation of a collaborative test program situated in Alaska. The proposed initiative would involve cooperation among the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Weather Service, the local academic community, and private entities. The primary objective of this program is to establish the viability of relaying weather information collected from airborne aircraft equipped with existing data-link technology, such as universal access transceivers, to the NWS Alaska Aviation Weather Unit in real-time.
