The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to review non-Boeing designs for potential deficiencies.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a safety recommendation, designated as A-12-003 with reference number DCA09MA021, addressed to the Federal Aviation Administration. This directive urges the FAA to review the designs of manufacturers other than Boeing for overhead bins and passenger service units (PSU). The goal is to identify designs that contain deficiencies similar to those found in Boeing’s design. Furthermore, the NTSB requires the FAA to mandate that these manufacturers eliminate the potential for PSUs to separate from their attachments during survivable accidents, as necessary.
