Safety recommendation

The National Transportation Safety Board has called on the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate distinct warning systems for pilots when speedbrakes fail to deploy during landing.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a formal safety recommendation, designated as A-12-045 and associated with NTSB number DCA11IA015, directed at the Federal Aviation Administration. This recommendation specifically addresses the need for enhanced pilot awareness during critical phases of flight. The NSB urges the FAA to require that all newly type-certificated airplanes operating under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 25 standards be equipped with a clearly distinguishable and intelligible alert system. This system is intended to warn pilots immediately if the speedbrakes have not deployed during the landing roll, thereby improving situational awareness and safety for new aircraft models.
