Safety recommendation

The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate retrofits for large airplanes lacking clear cockpit visibility of wingtips.

In safety recommendation DCA11LA045AB, designated as A-12-049, the National Transportation Safety Board addressed a directive to the Federal Aviation Administration. The board advised that all existing large airplanes and other airplane models where the wingtips are not easily visible from the cockpit be retrofitted with an anti-collision aid. This equipment, such as a camera system, would provide a cockpit indication to help pilots determine wingtip clearance and path during taxi operations.
