The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to establish and implement performance requirements for detecting fires within cargo containers and pallets.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued safety recommendation A-12-068, identified under reference DCA10RA092. This directive is addressed to the Federal Aviation Administration. The NTSB requires the agency to develop specific performance requirements for fire detection systems. These new standards are intended to facilitate the early detection of fires that originate within cargo containers and pallets. Once these requirements have been developed, the FAA must implement them. This current safety recommendation supersedes the previous Safety Recommendation A-07-98. The NTSB emphasizes the need for improved detection capabilities to address fire risks in cargo storage areas.
