The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a safety recommendation to the Federal Aviation Administration regarding portable electronic device usage.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released safety recommendation A-13-007, identified by reference number CEN11FA599. This directive is addressed directly to the Federal Aviation Administration. The NTSB urges the agency to implement regulations that prohibit flight crewmembers from using portable electronic devices for nonoperational purposes while stationed at their duty stations on the flight deck. This prohibition would apply specifically to operations conducted under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 and 91 subpart K. The recommendation aims to reduce distractions during critical phases of flight by ensuring crew members remain focused on operational duties rather than personal device usage while the aircraft is being operated.
