The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a safety recommendation, designated as ENG13IA016 and A-13-028, addressed to the Federal Aviation Administration. This directive urges the FAA to require operators of airplanes equipped with General Electric CF6-80C2 and CF6-80E1 engine models to comply with GE Service Bulletin 73-0371 and GE SB 73-099. These documents, titled Engine Fuel Control—Fuel System (73-00-00)—Introduction of New Fuel Manifold System, are intended to prevent undercowl fires on these specific engine types. The recommendation highlights that such fires can result from fuel manifold leaks caused by fractured or worn feeder lines within the fuel system.
