NTSB Issues Recommendation A-14-004 to FAA Regarding MD-11 Flare Cueing Systems
The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to collaborate with Boeing on assessing flare cueing technology for MD-11 aircraft.
Safety recommendation
The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to collaborate with Boeing on assessing flare cueing technology for MD-11 aircraft.
In safety recommendation DCA10RA079, designated as A-14-004, the National Transportation Safety Board has instructed the Federal Aviation Administration to work directly with Boeing. The primary objective is to assess the effectiveness of flare cueing systems designed to assist MD-11 pilots in making timely and appropriate inputs during the landing flare phase. Following this assessment, the FAA is required to provide a formal report detailing the findings. If the assessment indicates that flare cueing systems could be useful to MD-11 pilots, the FAA must distribute copies of the report to all United States operators of MD-11 airplanes and encourage them to install such systems on their fleets.
