NTSB Issues Safety Recommendation to FAA Regarding MD-11 Landing Distance Data
The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to collaborate with Boeing on evaluating and updating published landing distance tables for the MD-11 aircraft.
Safety recommendation
The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to collaborate with Boeing on evaluating and updating published landing distance tables for the MD-11 aircraft.
In safety recommendation DCA10RA079, designated as A-14-006, the National Transportation Safety Board addressed a directive to the Federal Aviation Administration. The board instructed the agency to work directly with Boeing to evaluate the effect of brief power increases on simulated MD-11 landing distances. Following this evaluation, the FAA is required to adjust the values in published MD-11 landing distance tables accordingly. The updated data must then be provided to MD-11 operators to ensure accurate performance metrics are available for flight planning and safety assessments.
