The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the National Weather Service to revise its interagency agreement with the FAA to incorporate new duties for center weather service units.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued Safety Recommendation A-14-019 addressed to the National Weather Service. This directive requires the agency, in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to revise the existing Interagency Agreement between the FAA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Weather Service (NWS). The revision must address the center weather service units (CWSU) and its accompanying statement of work as needed. Specifically, the agreement must be updated to add new responsibilities for CWSU personnel in response to Safety Recommendations A-14-17 and/or A-14-18. These additions are intended to supplement the other responsibilities currently performed by the NWS under this agreement. The NTSB emphasizes that these changes are necessary to ensure that the updated framework adequately covers the expanded scope of duties required for these specific safety recommendations.
