Safety recommendation

The NTSB advises aviation operators to ensure their procedures for responding to terrain awareness and warning system alerts are sufficient to prevent impact with obstacles.

In Recommendation A-14-081, designated under reference number DCA13MA133, the National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to advise aircraft operators regarding terrain awareness and warning systems. The board highlights that in certain situations, an escalating series of TAWS warnings may not occur before impact with terrain or obstacles. Consequently, the NTSB encourages operators to review their procedures for responding to alerts on final approach to ensure these protocols are sufficient to enable pilots to avoid impact with terrain or obstacles in such critical scenarios.
