Safety recommendation

The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to require operators of airplanes equipped with terrain awareness and warning systems to activate specific altitude callouts.

In recommendation DCA13MA133, designated as A-14-084, the National Transportation Safety Board addressed the Federal Aviation Administration regarding safety protocols for aircraft navigation alerts. The board specifically requested that the FAA mandate all operators of airplanes equipped with terrain awareness and warning systems to activate the TAWS 500-ft voice callout or a similar alert mechanism. This directive applies to those airplanes not already equipped with an automated minimums alert, aiming to enhance situational awareness during critical phases of flight by ensuring consistent auditory warnings are available to the flight crew.
