The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to implement physical separation protocols for specific hazardous materials on aircraft.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued safety recommendation A-16-001, identified by reference number DCA11RA087, addressed to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. This directive mandates that Class 3 flammable liquids and fully regulated Class 9 lithium batteries must be physically segregated when stowed on board an aircraft. The requirement ensures that packages containing these materials cannot be placed on the same or adjacent pallets or Unit Load Devices (ULDs). This measure aims to mitigate risks associated with transporting these specific hazardous classes in close proximity during air transport operations.
