Safety recommendation

The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer to inform operators that current bracket usage is unapproved and poses a hazard.

The National Transportation Safety Board has released safety recommendation A-17-003, designated under investigation number DCA13WA123. This directive is addressed to Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica, S.A.). The board requires the manufacturer to issue an operations bulletin for its operators. The bulletin must clarify that the use of binder brackets to hold chart binders is not approved by Embraer. The recommendation highlights that this unapproved configuration could cause a hazardous condition if a binder becomes dislodged from the bracket. This action aims to prevent potential safety risks associated with improperly secured navigation materials during flight operations.
