The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to notify operators of potential hazards associated with dislodged chart binders in Embraer aircraft.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued Safety Recommendation A-17-005, designated as DCA13WA123, addressed directly to the Federal Aviation Administration. This recommendation follows the issuance of an operations bulletin by Embraer, referenced in Safety Recommendation A-17-3. The NTSB instructs the FAA to notify operators of Embraer aircraft that the use of binder brackets to hold chart binders could cause a hazardous condition if a binder becomes dislodged from the bracket. Furthermore, the agency is urged to encourage operators to comply with the relevant Embraer operations bulletin to mitigate this specific risk.
