The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued Recommendation A-17-032, identified by reference number DCA15SR001, addressed directly to the Cargo Airline Association. The directive urges the association to encourage its member companies to provide more pilot weather reports, commonly known as PIREPs, specifically during overnight flight hours. This increased reporting can be achieved through enhanced efforts by flight crews to submit their own observations or through active solicitation by dispatchers and other ground personnel. The NSB emphasizes that it is critical to ensure that these collected weather reports are submitted for dissemination into the National Airspace System to improve situational awareness and safety during nighttime operations.
