The National Transportation Safety Board has directed the Federal Aviation Administration to mandate retrofits for Boeing 737 next-generation-series airplanes.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued Safety Recommendation A-19-019, designated under report number DCA18MA142. This formal recommendation is addressed directly to the Federal Aviation Administration. The NTSB instructs the agency to require operators of Boeing 737 next-generation-series airplanes to retrofit their aircraft with a redesigned fan cowl structure. This mandate is contingent upon the completion of the actions requested in Safety Recommendation A-19-17. Once those prior actions are finalized, the FAA must enforce the structural retrofit for the specified fleet to enhance safety standards.
