NTSB Recommends FAA Action on Refueling Procedures with Inoperative Fuel Quantity Gauges
The NTSB recommends the FAA direct inspections of carriers for refueling protocols when fuel quantity gauges are inoperative.
The NTSB recommends that the Federal Aviation Administration direct principal operations inspectors to inspect their air carriers operating under 14 CFR parts 121 or scheduled 135 regarding procedures for refueling with an inoperative fuel quantity gauge. The recommendation also calls for requiring these air carriers to modify their refueling procedures to include dipstickings, dripstickings, or other appropriate measurements of fuel quantity, with consideration given to the level of the airplane.
