CLOSE PROX GA SMT ON TKOF TO THE N FROM APV AND GA SMA IN PATTERN FOR LNDG ON RWY 18.

Narrative

APV SINGLE RWY 18/36. A LARGE WIND SOCK CENTERED IN THE TFC PATTERN INDICATOR CIRCLE ADJACENT TO THE TERMINAL INDICATED A WIND OF ABOUT 5-7 KTS DIRECTLY OUT OF THE N; FAVORING RWY 36. THE TAXIING DISTANCE TO THE TKOF END OF RWY 36 IS 1000 FT OR LESS FROM THE TERMINAL; MY STARTING POINT. THE PNF ANNOUNCED OUR INTENTIONS TO DEPART RWY 36 ON UNICOM (122.8). AS I BEGAN THE TKOF ROLL AN ACFT RPTED HE WAS 'DOWNWIND' FOR RWY 18. THE PNF TOLD THAT ACFT THAT THE WINDS FAVORED 36. THE PLT OF THE ACFT IN THE TFC PATTERN; IN A HEATED TONE OF VOICE; SAID THE WIND SOCK AT THE APCH END OF 18 SHOWED THE WIND OUT OF THE S. BOTH THE PNF AND I COULD SEE THE ACFT IN THE PATTERN; A WHITE AND YELLOW SMA; N # UNKNOWN. HIS POS POSED NO HAZARD TO EITHER ACFT'S INTENDED OP. IN A DISGRUNTLED VOICE OVER THE AIR THE SMA PLT USED PROFANITY AND SAID THE SMT WAS JUST TOO LAZY TO TAXI TO RWY 18. AT LESS THAN MIDFIELD OF THE 6500 FT RWY I LIFTED OFF. AT THAT SAME TIME THE SMA CALLED TURNING L BASE. HE WAS MAKING A VERY CLOSE IN L DIVING TURN TOWARD THE RWY AND OUR DEPARTING ACFT. AS I PULLED MY ACFT UP INTO A STEEPER CLB TO GET ABOVE HIM HE ANGLED TO HIS L TOWARD THE DEP END OF RWY 36 AND MY CLBING ACFT. AT THE DEP END OF THE RWY 36 OR POSSIBLY 1000 FT OR SO BEYOND; MY ALT WAS ABOUT 500 FT AGL; THE SMA PASSED DIRECTLY UNDER ME ABOUT 200 FT LOWER. WHEN THE SMA ANGLED TOWARD ME; THE PLT RPTED TURNING FINAL. THE SMALL WIND SOCK AT THE N END OF THE RWY SHOWED A SLIGHT WIND XING OUT OF THE W. AS OUR 2 ACFT PASSED THE SMA PLT (MALE VOICE) CONTINUED TO VOICE HIS DISPLEASURE WITH OUR 36 DEP. MY ACFT IS BASED AT APV. THE SMA IS NOT. IT IS BELIEVED TO BE A TRAINING ACFT FROM THE VICINITY; BUT I AM NOT SURE; I DO NOT RECALL SEEING IT BEFORE. ALTHOUGH THE SMA PLT PROBABLY ANNOUNCED HIS N # BEFORE THIS ALTERCATION; IT DID NOT STICK IN MY OR THE OTHER PLT'S MIND.
