Synopsis

HVY WX FORCED FLT TO DETOUR TO THE E AND PENETRATE WARNING AREA THAT ARTCC ALLEGEDLY WAS UNABLE TO CAP FOR AIRLINER PASSAGE.

Narrative

WE WERE ENRTE FROM PHILADELPHIA TO MIAMI AT 2800 FT. THE ENTIRE E COAST WAS FULL OF TSTMS AND WE WERE RTED OVER THE WATER ON ARR. JUST S OF DIXON NDB; A LINE OF TSTMS BLOCKED AR7 AND WE NEEDED TO DEV EITHER E OR W AT LEAST 70 NM. UNFORTUNATELY BOTH SIDES OF THE AIRWAY ARE BORDERED BY WARNING AREAS; W122 TO THE E; W177 TO THE W AND BOTH WERE ACTIVE. SEVERAL ACFT AHEAD OF US NOTIFIED JAX CENTER THAT DEV WOULD BE REQUIRED; WE ADVISED THEM AS WELL. CENTER ADVISED NOT TO ENTER THE WARNING AREAS BECAUSE THEY WERE ACTIVE TO WHICH SOMEONE ASKED WHY THEY WEREN'T CAPPED TO ALLOW DEVS. CENTER REPLIED THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO COORD THAT. UNFORTUNATELY REAL TIME DIDN'T ALLOW US TO WAIT FOR THAT AS WE WERE DOING .78 MACH AND COULDN'T DO A 180 DEG TURN BECAUSE OF TFC BEHIND US AND AT ALL CLOSE ALTS. AS A RESULT WE DEVIATED WELL E OF AR7; FLYING THROUGH W122'S SW CORNER TO GET THROUGH AN AREA BTWN CELLS. WE SAW AT LEAST 4 OTHER AIRLINERS USING THE SAME AREA. AFTER THE LINE OF WX WE RETURNED TO AR7. SINCE I'M AN EXMIL PLT I WAS USED TO HAVING MY AIRSPACE CAPPED FOR DEVIATING AIRLINERS. ATC PUT ALL OF US ON THE ARR RTE IN AN UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS SITUATION BY NOT RAPIDLY COORDINATING WITH THE MIL FOR AIRSPACE. WE HAD NO GOOD OPTIONS.
