SPI LOST; CALLS TRACON FOR FLT ASSIST.

Narrative

I WAS FLYING AN SMA OUT OF HAMILTON. I TKOF AND FLEW W TO THE TRAINING AREA. I CLBED TO 4000 FT; DID 2 CLRING TURNS; AND WAS PRACTICING SLOW FLT AND SLIPS. WHEN I GOT DOWN TO 2800 FT; I CLBED BACK TO 4000 FT; DID 2 MORE CLRING TURNS. I DID SOME PRACTICE APCHS AND MORE SLOW FLT. I WAS GOING TO GO BACK TO HAMILTON AND PRACTICE LNDGS. WHEN I WENT TO GO BACK; I COULDN'T PLACE WHERE I WAS AT. I FLEW AROUND TRYING TO LOCATE A LANDMARK I COULD IDENT. I BECAME DISORIENTED AND CALLED HAMILTON. I WAS DIRECTED TO CALL CINCINNATI CTL TO GET VECTORED BACK TO HAMILTON. I CONTACTED CINCINNATI CTL AND EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM TO THEM. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO SQUAWK AND IDENT. I WAS THEN INSTRUCTED TO CLB TO 3500. AT THIS TIME I HAD ALREADY FLOWN INTO CINCINNATI ARSA WITHOUT REALIZING IT. THE CTLR VECTORED ME OUT OF THE AREA AND BACK TO HAMILTON. I LET MYSELF GET INTO TROUBLE BY NOT THINKING CLRLY AT THE TIME. I COULD HAVE USED A PAIR OF VORS TO FIND MY LOCATION AND FIND MY WAY BACK TO HAMILTON; BUT AT THE TIME I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT. I WAS TRYING TO FIND A VISUAL LANDMARK THAT I COULD RECOGNIZE.
