2022-03 · NASA ASRS report 1888375
A Helicopter pilot on short final to a non-towered airport reported an NMAC with a corporate jet that passed 100 feet over them.
I was making a VFR practice LPV approach to ZZZ Runway XX. On short final; heard a light transport aircraft check in from Center and report 'Aircraft Y on final' I made another CTAF call reporting I was on short final. Shortly after; I got a TCAS hit showing traffic close at 2:00 at +600 feet. We looked for what we thought might be an unknown traffic turning base in front of us; then the TCAS hit moved directly above us at +200. I realized that was the light transport over taking us. I didn't know what evasive action to take since I couldn't really tell if he was overtaking alongside us; over; or under. We saw him cross over us about 100 feet very steep on the glideslope and land long on the runway. I called him on the radio to ask if he saw us or heard my radio calls. Another aircraft on CTAF called back and said he had heard my calls. Light transport pilot apologized and that was it. Later on; when we landed at the FBO for fuel; I met the pilot. I asked why he had crossed over us. He said he had us on TCAS and had visual contact with us; although did not hear my radio calls. He thought we were a drone (surprising since I was in a helicopter-very large). He showed me a picture he had taken with his phone of us as he crossed over. I said a go-around would have been a better choice than overflying another aircraft.
