ACR WDB INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN ENRTE SJU-EWR.

Narrative

LEVEL CRUISE AT FL350. CREW OBSERVED #2 LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THROTTLE WAS RETARDED AND ANALYSIS OF INDICATIONS BEGUN. #2 GENERATOR OUT LIGHT; #2 CSD OIL LIGHT; #2 HYD LIGHTS AND 0 OIL PRESSURE WERE OBSERVED. ENG FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED BY FOLLOWING ENG INST INDICATIONS: N1 - 28 PERCENT; EGT DROPPING; N2 - 0; FUEL FLOW - 0. CAPT DIRECTED FE TO INITIATE EMER CHKLIST FOR ENG FAILURE AND FO TO NOTIFY ATC OF SITUATION AND REQUEST CLRNC TO FL250. CAPT MAINTAINED FL350 AS AIRSPD SLOWLY DECAYED TOWARDS RECOMMENDED DRIFTDOWN AIRSPD. THE HF FREQ WAS VERY BUSY AND THERE SEEMED TO BE SOME INITIAL CONFUSION WITH COMMERCIAL RADIO AS TO OUR CALL SIGN; THE TIME OUR DSCNT WAS INITIATED; AND REASON FOR DSCNT. AFTER SEVERAL MINS; WHEN RECOMMENDED DRIFTDOWN AIRSPD WAS REACHED; A SLOW DSCNT WAS INITIATED OFF AIRWAY CENTERLINE IN VMC. THE CREW MAINTAINED A VISUAL TFC WATCH. CLRNC TO DSND TO FL250 WAS RECEIVED ABOUT THE SAME TIME DSCNT WAS INITIATED AND WHEN WE WERE STILL WITHIN 300 FT OF FL350. REMAINDER OF 2 ENG FLT TO EWR WAS UNEVENTFUL AND CRASH EQUIP WAS STANDING BY AT EWR ACFT REQUIRED AN ENG CHANGE RESULTING FROM A GEAR BOX FAILURE.
