ERRATIC PLT BEHAVIOR UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE AT NON TWR ARPT UNICOM CREATES A POTENTIAL CONFLICT BTWN ARR DEP ACFT.

Narrative

WERE WAITING FOR TKOF AT RWY 25 IN CORONA. AHEAD OF ME IS SOME KIND OF EXPERIMENTAL. BEHIND ME WERE ALSO SOME ACFT WAITING FOR TKOF. THERE CAME AN OPENING FOR TKOF BUT THE ACFT AHEAD OF ME DID NOT GO. I TRIED TO GO INSTEAD (THAT IS; I STARTED TO MOVE SLIGHTLY FORWARD) AND ON THE RADIO AN SMA BEHIND ME SAID; 'YEAH; GO FOR IT. GET OUT OF THIS GUY'S WAY'. BUT THE ACFT AHEAD OF ME DID NOT MOVE SO I COULD NOT GO. AFTER A COUPLE OF AIRPLANES PASSED ANOTHER CHANCE CAME UP. THIS TIME THE EXPERIMENTAL STARTED TO ROLL. I LOOKED AT THE ACFT NOW ABOUT TO TURN FINAL AND I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THE EXPERIMENTAL. I TAXIED INTO POS AND HOLD AND AS SOON AS THE EXPERIMENTAL WAS ABOUT 1/4 DOWN THE RWY I TOLD MY STUDENT TO GO AHEAD AND START HIS TKOF (HE WAS UNDER THE HOOD BECAUSE WE WERE GOING TO PRACTICE AN INST TKOF). THIS WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO CAUSE THE ACFT BEHIND ME TO HAVE TO GAR. I WAS FLYING AN SMA. APPARENTLY I HAD MISJUDGED THE SPD OF THE EXPERIMENTAL BECAUSE WE STARTED RAPIDLY TO OVERTAKE THE EXPERIMENTAL. I THOUGHT ABOUT REDUCING PWR AND STOPPING TO TAXI BACK BUT I WAS ALREADY A LITTLE WAY DOWN THE RWY AND THE THING THAT POPPED INTO MY MIND WAS WHAT IF THE SMA ON FINAL HAS LANDED AND IS ROLLING NOW (I HAVE SEEN THAT BEFORE ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS) HE WILL NOT EXPECT ME TO STOP SO HE WOULD JUST ROLL INTO THE BACK OF ME. SO I DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE TKOF AND OVERTAKE THE EXPERIMENTAL IN THE AIR. SO AS SOON AS I WAS OFF THE GND (I HAD TAKEN OVER THE CTLS FROM THE STUDENT) I STARTED TO PASS THE EXPERIMENTAL TO THE R. AS SOON AS I WAS SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF THE EXPERIMENTAL; THE ACFT THAT HAD BEEN ON FINAL PASSED ME IN HIS GAR PASS. (IN WHICH; BY THE WAY; HE DIDN'T REALLY CLB BECAUSE IT WAS A SIMILAR TYPE SMA AND HE PASSED ME WITH CONSIDERABLE EASE WHILE I WAS GOING ABOUT 70-75 KTS.) THAT WAS; BY THE WAY; THE FIRST I HAD SEEN FROM THAT ACFT SINCE HE MADE HIS BASE TO FINAL TURN. AS THIS WENT ON I HEARD SOME COMMENTS ON THE RADIO ABOUT WHAT A DUMB THING I WAS DOING. I AGREED BUT THOUGHT I WAS HANDLING IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF SAFETY. I HAVE LEARNED THAT FROM NOW ON I WILL WAIT UNTIL THE ACFT IS DEFINITELY CLBING BEFORE I WILL EVEN ADD THE PWR FOR TKOF.
