Synopsis

CLOSE PROX GA SPN FLOATING ACROSS A RWY INTXN AND A GA SMT ON LNDG ROLL THROUGH THE INTXN.

Narrative

SHORTLY AFTER AEROTOW TKOF IN GLIDER AT DOUGLAS COUNTY ARPT; I NOTED THE CANOPY LOCK LEVER IN THE UNLOCKED POS. ANY FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO LOCK THE CANOPY FAILED. WITH A PHYSICAL HOLD ON THE CANOPY WITH MY L HAND; I RELEASED FROM THE TOW PLANE FOR IMMEDIATE ENTRY TO THE GLIDER TFC PATTERN. I CALLED DOUGLAS COUNTY TFC FOR R DOWNWIND; RWY 30. I DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER NOR DID I STATE THAT MY INTENTIONS WERE TO PASS THROUGH RWY 34 INTXN. UNABLE TO REACH THE AIR BRAKE LEVER TO DEPLOY THE SPOILERS BECAUSE MY L HAND WAS GRIPPING THE CANOPY TO PREVENT ITS DEP FROM THE AIRFRAME; I PERFORMED A TURNING SLIP ON BASE AND SIDE SLIP ON FINAL TO LOSE ALT. AT THIS POINT ANY ADDITIONAL RADIO COM ON MY PART WAS IMPOSSIBLE. WITH 1 HAND ON THE STICK AND THE OTHER HOLDING THE CANOPY CLOSED; I COULD NOT GRAB AND HOLD THE HAND HELD MICROPHONE. THE SIDE SLIP MANEUVER RESULTED IN A HIGH AND FAST APCH; CREATING AN EXCESSIVELY LONG FLOAT AT APPROX 6 FT AGL ACROSS RWY INTXN 34 AND 30. 2 SECONDS AFTER I FLOATED ACROSS RWY 34 AN SMT JET PASSED THROUGH THE INTXN ON ROLLOUT. I DID NOT HEAR ANY TFC CALLS MADE BY THE JET NOR DID I SEE THE JET DURING MY FINAL APCH.
