CLOSE PROX GA SMA ENTERING PATTERN AT NON TWR ARPT AND SMT IN TFC PATTERN AT ADJACENT ARPT.

Narrative

I WAS RETURNING TO 65LA (SOUTHERN SEA PLANE) FOR LNDG. I MADE A RADIO CALL TO THE TWR STATING MY POS AS 7 MI N AND INBOUND FOR LNDG AT 65LA. THE CTLR CLRED MY PLANE; SMA; DIRECT TO 65LA. TFC WAS CALLED OUT AS SMT IN THE PATTERN FOR RWY 4 AT NAVY AND 1000 FT. I BEGAN MY DSCNT FROM 1500 FT TO PATTERN ALT OF 500 FT (65LA) AND BEGAN LOOKING FOR TFC. THE WIND WAS 120 AT 10 KTS ALMOST A DIRECT XWIND AND I DECIDED TO LAND TO THE S (RWY 20+/-). THIS WOULD GIVE ME A CHANCE TO CROSS OVER THE FIELD AND CHK WIND SOCK AND FLOAT PLANE MOVEMENT NEXT TO RWY. I NEVER SAW THE SMT IN THE PATTERN. AS I APCHED THE FIELD STILL N OF IT; MY ATTN WAS TOWARD 65LA; NOW DOWN TO 600+/- AND ALMOST INTO TFC PATTERN. I WAS LOOKING AT THE MOVEMENT OF PLANES ON THE ARPT (FLAT PLANES MUST CROSS RWY TO REACH HANGARS AND FUEL). WHEN A CALL CAME FROM THE SMT IN NAVY PATTERN STATING THAT UPON TKOF AND TURN OUT (WHICH TURN I DON'T KNOW) HE SAW AN SMA IN THE PATTERN (HIS PATTERN) AND AT PATTERN ALT. HE ASKED FOR ANY RPTED TFC. THE TWR STATED NONE RPTED. THEN TWR INQUIRED ABOUT THE SMA AT 65LA. BEING MY ACFT I REPLIED AND STATED I WAS JUST THEN TURNING INTO DOWNWIND FOR LNDG TO THE S. HE ADVISED ME PATTERN ALT WAS 500 FT AND I REPLIED THAT I WAS NOT AT 500 FT. THE PLT OF THE SMT WAS QUITE SHAKEN BY THE SITUATION. I WAS SHAKEN UP BY THE RADIO CALLS; THOUGH I NEVER SAW THE SMT AT ANY TIME. I FEEL THAT THE OVERLAPPING PATTERNS CAUSED THE SMT THE FEELING OF THREAT HE EXPERIENCED. HE MUST HAVE BEEN CLBING ON XWIND WHEN I WAS DSNDING ON A XWIND. TWR SHOULD HAVE WARNED OF OTHER INBOUND TFC (SMA) AND PERHAPS UPDATED THE SMT'S POS IN PATTERN. THUS; THE SMT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SURPRISED AND SHAKEN UP.
