Synopsis

MLG ON APCH CLRED TO L RWY. WHEN RPTING FIELD IN SIGHT; CLRNC CHANGED TO R RWY. NMAC WITH LGT ON FINAL.

Narrative

APCH INITIALLY GAVE US CLRNC FOR RWY 26L WHICH I EXPECTED. HOWEVER; AFTER CALLING TFC AHEAD OF US AND US RPTING IN SIGHT INSTRUCTIONS WERE CHANGED FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 26R. THIS I MUST SAY STRUCK ME AS ODD AND I REPEATED THE INSTRUCTION TO THE CAPT. HE AGREED THAT IT WAS AN APCH TO RWY 26R. I PROCEEDED TO CROSS THE PATH OF 26L AND LINED UP WITH 26R. AT ABOUT MY 3 O'CLOCK I SAW AN ACFT ON A CONSTANT BEARING TO US. I CALLED ATTN TO THE TFC AND ASKED IF HE KNEW OF THE TFC. THE CAPT SAW THE TFC AND QUERIED THE TWR AT THE SAME TIME WHETHER WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON 26R. TWR RESPONDED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE AS TO THE TFC TWR SAID IT WAS 'FOR THE PARALLEL.' AS I NARRATE THIS; THE ACFT KEPT COMING CLOSER WHICH I KEPT POINTING OUT. WE QUERIED THE TWR ONCE MORE. AT THIS TIME WE SAW THE ACFT DANGEROUSLY CLOSE AND OBVIOUSLY LINING FOR 26R. CALLED THE TWR TO INFORM WE WERE INITIATING A GAR. TWR CAME BACK WITH AN AGITATED VOICE THAT WE WERE NOW CLRED FOR A 26L APCH. AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG FOLLOWED. AS TO THE OTHER ACFT THEY STARTED AN EVASIVE MANEUVER AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME; BUT AFTER CONFLICT WAS RESOLVED WAS ABLE TO LAND ON 26R. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HE FELT CAPT WAS GOING TO FOLLOW UP SO HE DID NOT. RPT SENT TO CHIEF PLT AND RPTR HAS HEARD NO MORE. CAPT DID NOT SEE THE LGT PROX RIGHT AWAY THUS NOT AS ANXIOUS AS FO.
