2022-11 · NASA ASRS report 1953871
Flight Instructor reported a temporary loss of aircraft directional control during landing training. Flight Instructor assumed aircraft control; requested a full stop landing and landed safely.
Contacted Tower about control surface issue because I was being proactive in case they actually stuck. First notice was coming in to land; short final went to go pull power idle and my student and I got a hard yaw right; he was just hovering the controls at the time. Got it back to centerline; went to take off and on climb out experienced it again. I took controls; went to go start a 10 degree left turn into the crosswind off of XXL and my skid indicator went 30 degrees right and hovered at that for a few seconds. I rolled wings level and checked my ailerons to make sure they weren't stuck. At the time I contacted Tower and let them know that we were having control surface issues and needed to come in for a full stop on this next landing. My student stayed off the controls and I just made very shallow banks to come into land in the pattern. We had no issues after turning into downwind. I let Tower know of the issue just in case they were to get stuck. We landed and everything was fine. I kept my speed up and made shallow banks to return back to the airport.
