Synopsis

C152 pilot reported engine failure and a precautionary landing after an engine overhauled by himself failed in flight.

Narrative

The engine installed on Aircraft X was overhauled by myself. It had the increased horsepower cylinders/pistons and was STC'd for this. All sub components were sent out for overhaul to Company X and Company Y. After recertification of parts; I assembled the engine and installed on Aircraft X. The propeller was removed and sent out for overhaul. The propeller was then reinstalled. Paperwork was filled out showing the STC was installed on this aircraft. The engine was test run and had 400 hours since overhaul when the number two cylinder attempted to break free from the engine block. The engine was shut down inflight and a successful landing was accomplished without damage to the aircraft or persons in the aircraft. Landing was at ZZZ; the home airport for Aircraft X. I checked all areas that could have caused this issue and determined the engine was assembled correctly. I researched the propeller and am fairly confident it was correct for the engine. I am self-reporting this in case it is determined that I was the cause of this incident or something installed on the aircraft caused this incident.
