EMB-170 flight crew reported encountering wind shear on approach and a subsequent diversion to another airport with more favorable weather conditions.
As the First Officer; ZZZ2-ZZZ; we diverted to ZZZ1 following a wind shear/microburst; severe turbulence; loss of aircraft control authority; weather event during final approach. We were flying the ILS Runway X approach into ZZZ; as approved by Approach Control and ZZZ Tower. The crew was aware of the potential for weather; with up to moderate turbulence enroute to ZZZ; which was thoroughly briefed and discussed with all crew members and passengers multiple times before and during flight. All passengers and crew were seated early to ensure safety. We safely navigated to our destination for landing and avoided all weather enroute to ZZZ; where it was VMC. After being cleared for the ZZZ ILS X approach and landing; with the aircraft fully configured and stable for approach well above 1000 ft. AGL and the final approach fix altitude; we began our landing sequence with a stable aircraft attitude. On final approach the aircraft entered the weather event described above and we were required to perform the escape maneuver. As PM (Pilot Monitoring); my focus during the escape maneuver was ensuring all required actions had been completed; monitoring attitude/altitude/airspeed; and calling out information on trends and flight path; while also ensuring power remained max thrust while the Captain controlled attitude. I was also monitoring the radio; but did not respond to ATC calls until the aircraft had gained enough altitude to safely respond. During the escape phase; ATC approved deviations and asked what altitude we needed; granting altitude at pilot discretion. We stopped our climb at 18;000 ft and advised ATC. Once we were stable and were able to safely further communicate with ATC; we informed them we needed to divert to ZZZ1. Enroute to ZZZ1; the crew coordinated with ATC for approval to deviate from the filed flight path to avoid further weather; which was approved as required at pilot discretion. Direct ZZZ1 when able was approved. We landed safely in ZZZ1; with no reported injuries; where the Captain wrote the aircraft up for severe turbulence following a thorough crew post-flight inspection by both pilots. I also reported the weather event and turbulence to ATC in ZZZ1; informing them no one was hurt and EMS would not be required.As a crew we did what was necessary for safety of flight. We landed safely with no injuries.
