ACR MLG ENTERED THE WRONG TAXIWAY AFTER LNDG AT BTR. HAD TO PWR BACK TO GET ON CORRECT TAXIWAY. PWR BACK NOT AUTHORIZED IN THE ACFT.
LANDED RWY 31 AT BATON ROUGE FROM NDB APCH. EXITED RWY 31 ON JULIET TAXIWAY ABOUT 5800 FT DOWN RWY. TURNED L ONTO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS BRAVO TAXIWAY BUT WAS CHARLIE N. INITIALLY THIS TAXIWAY WHICH IS CONCRETE AND MARKED WITH YELLOW STRIPES LOOKED LIKE IT WENT TO RAMP (AS THE MAIN TAXIWAY). QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THIS TAXIWAY WAS NOT A THROUGH TAXIWAY I STOPPED TOO FAR INTO TAXIWAY TO HAVE NOSE WHEEL CLR THE DIRT IF I TURNED TO THE L. GND CALLED TO SEE IF WE NEEDED ASSISTANCE. WE REPLIED THAT WE HAD TO MANEUVER TO GET ON B. BACKED THE ACFT ABOUT 10 FT WITH MIN REVERSE AFTER DISCUSSION IN COCKPIT. COPLT SAID BACKING WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA BUT I ELECTED TO BACK UP. AFTER BACKING ABOUT 10 FT AT MIN PWR; WAS ABLE TO TAXI ONTO BRAVO AND PROCEED TO PARKING RAMP. IN CHKING WITH RAMP AND TWR PERSONNEL; THIS INCORRECT TAXI RTE HAS BEEN USED BY 6-9 ACFT RESULTING IN THEIR HAVING TO BE TOWED. SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. SIGNS TO INDICATE TAXIWAY NAMES AND THE FACT THAT CHARLIE N IS NOT THE WAY TO THE RAMP. BTR 10-9 ARPT DIAGRAM NEEDS TO BE REVISED TO SHOW THAT CHARLIE N IS NOT A THROUGH TAXIWAY. PAINTING OF TAXIWAY B SO AS TO INDICATE IT IS THE PRIMARY TAXIWAY TO THE RAMP AREA -- BETTER PAINTING WOULD HELP. IF THIS MISTAKE IN TAXI RTE HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES IN THE PAST; IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED ASAP TO PREVENT SOMEONE FROM PERHAPS TAXIING THE WRONG WAY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 201195.
