Synopsis

A320 Captain reported a compressor stall and Engine 2 failing during climb. The flight crew diverted to another airport and safely landed.

Narrative

Engine event; Captain flying pilot. Normal takeoff out of ZZZZ followed by ZZZZZ [Departure] with approval from ZZZZ Tower for left turn out direct ZZZZZ. Crossing 10;100 ft. and climbing to assigned altitude of 14;000 ft.; ENG 2 failure. Compressor stall as quickly as it came; disappeared [and] followed by ENG 2 fail on ECAM. We leveled at 10;000 ft. and began abnormal for ENG 2 FAIL. We [requested priority handling] with ZZZZ Control. We advised the flight attendants to prepare. We contacted Dispatch with lost Engine 2; going to ZZZZ1 [Airport]. We performed Diversion Checklist and Overweight Landing Checklist. With ZZZZ1 Approach we advised on initial contact [priority] aircraft and requested to go to ZZZZ1 [Airport]. At this time we were at 14;000 ft. for terrain clearance and were given direct to ZZZZZ1 for the RNAV XX at ZZZZ1 [Airport]. We gave them souls on board and FOB in lb. as requested by ZZZZ1 Control. We requested Fire/Crash Rescue. We accomplished an arrival and landing briefing followed by Approach Checklist. Spoke to flight attendants again; still preparing and everything is going smoothly. We are planning to land; pull off the runway; and have Fire Rescue evaluate from the outside. They acknowledged and stated we are all ready. Landing was uneventful and as briefed got off the runway onto the adjacent taxiway. Remain seated was announced to the cabin. Accomplished Landing Checklist. Fire Rescue gave the all clear. Fire Rescue followed us to the gate as we requested. Parked at [Gate] XX and all passengers were disembarked via airstairs. Our touchdown weight was 152;000 lbs. Parking Checklist completed
