MLG FLC HAS TFC CALLED; TCASII RA. TAKES EVASIVE ACTION; FORGETS TWR CONTACT.
FLT PIT TO SWF. APPROX 25 MI FROM SWF WHILE ON VECTORS TO A VISUAL APCH. NEW YORK CTR ISSUED US A TA AT THE SAME INSTANT OUR TCASII CALLED 'TFC.' SHORTLY AFTERWARD TCASII ISSUED A RA TO CLB; WHICH WE DID AND NOTIFIED CTR OF OUR ACTIONS. ONCE WE WERE CLR OF TFC WE CONTINUED TO DSND AND WERE VECTORED TO THE VISUAL FOR RWY 9. CTR CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL. THE CAPT HAD JUST CALLED FOR GEAR DOWN AND FINAL CHKLIST WHEN CTR TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR ON 121.0. I SWITCHED FREQ AND CONTINUED WITH THE CHKLIST. WE LANDED AND ON ROLLOUT TWR LET US KNOW WE HAD FORGOTTEN TO GIVE THEM A CALL. I FEEL THE MAJOR FACTORS: WERE THE TFC CONFLICT AND TCASII RA THAT HAD TAKEN PLACE IN THE LAST 5 MIN AND THE TIMING OF OUR CHKLIST AND HDOF TO THE TWR. THE CTR CTLR HAD CALLED THE TFC AT THE SAME INSTANT TCASII ALERTED US. WE WERE TRYING TO VISUALLY FIND THE TFC WITH REPEATED CALLOUTS FROM THE RADAR CTLR AND FINALLY A CLB COMMAND FROM TCASII. THIS EVENT PROBABLY TOOK 10 SECONDS TOTAL. THIS EVENT REMAINED IN THE BACK OF OUR MINDS. THE SECOND FACTOR WAS THE HDOF BEING RECEIVED IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR CHKLIST. I SWITCHED FREQ BUT CONTINUED WITH THE CHKLIST AND SUBSEQUENT STANDARD APCH CALLOUTS. WITH THE RESULT THAT ACTUALLY CALLING THE TWR GOT LOST. I THINK THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS TYPE OF SITUATION IS TO ADD 'CLRED TO LAND' TO OUR LNDG CHKLISTS. THAT IS WHAT CHKLISTS ARE FOR; TO HELP YOU REMEMBER; ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE DISTR. I'M GOING TO ADD IT TO MINE.
