2024-06 · NASA ASRS report 2136407
C172 Flight Instructor; A319 flight crew; and a ground observer reported a failure between aircraft CTAF reports to indicate intentions resulted in evasive action to avoid a NMAC on takeoff.
Following is a summary of the near-miss event at ZZZ. Aircraft X was departing RWY XX and Aircraft Y was departing RWY XY. Near miss happened at the intersection between RWY XX and RWY XY. SP (Student Pilot) made an initial taxi call to RWY XX 'ZZZ traffic; Aircraft X; at south ramp; taxing to RWY XX via Taxiway 1; Taxiway 2.' After our initial call Aircraft Y made an initial taxi call to RWY XY. 'ZZZ traffic; Aircraft Y; at air-carrier ramp; taxing to RWY XY; it will be an east departure' We taxied and held short of RWY XX. Until then; there was no further advisory radio call from Aircraft Y. IP (Instructor Pilot) tried to look their position and further information on the Foreflight; but it only showed their tail number. So; IP tried to see if their call sign matches to the tail number on the mobile app. Paid more attention on the operation around RWY XY and air-carrier ramp.SP made a hold short call at RWY XX. 'ZZZ traffic; Aircraft X; holding short off RWY XX; entering RWY XX; north departure; we'll be making a left downwind departure to the north' That call was long; might be stepped on with Aircraft Y's call. After the safety check; we entered RWY XX for departure. IP was still scanning RWY XY area and paying attention on the Foreflight map. During the ground roll into RWY XX; IP made a RWY entering call again. 'ZZZ traffic; Aircraft X; entering RWY XX; north departure'; still no reply. We started our ground roll and suddenly other traffic on the air-carrier ramp made a pushback call. 'ZZZ traffic; regional jet; pushing back ... (unreadable)' IP tried to abort the take-off; but suddenly noticed that was just for push back on air-carrier ramp. Ended up continuing the ground roll.During In ground effect; all of the sudden traffic warning popped up on our GPS. IP looked back on 5'o clock; and saw that Aircraft Y traffic was rolling on the ground. IP wasn't sure that traffic was rolling on the RWY XY or Taxiway 3. From our initial taxi call to 1;000 AGL climb; we could only hear Aircraft Y's taxi call. While holding short of RWY XY; before ZZZ Tower was open; the pilot monitoring received a release for departure from Center. Upon lining up with runway centerline; as the pilot flying from the left seat; I advanced the thrust levers for takeoff and began the takeoff roll. After takeoff thrust was set and at approximately 60 knots; both pilots saw a single engine Cessna departing from RWY XX. The Cessna appeared to be past (southeast of) RWY XY centerline and at about 100 ft AGL. The takeoff was continued uneventfully and both pilots do not recall hearing the crossing traffic make a takeoff radio call.
