Synopsis

Air carrier flight crew reported a near-collision with another air carrier during taxi to MIA Runway 8R.

Narrative

During our taxi out to Runway 8R in MIA on we were in sequence" on Taxiway M and had been holding for two other departures. Another air carrier was in front of us on Taxiway M was cleared on to Runway 8R; we were the next aircraft on Taxiway M; with the nose of our aircraft just past the west side of M2. I started moving up to the hold line for Runway 8R as the other air carrier aircraft was lining up on Runway 8R. I was taxing around 3-5 miles per hour when my FO yelled out "careful; careful careful"; at that moment I noticed another air carrier aircraft taxiing into my taxi path from the left; apparently from Taxiway P. I stopped the aircraft; just in time to avoid a collision. I contacted the Tower and asked who was next for Runway 8R. It sounded like they were expecting us to be next but replied "I guess the other air carrier aircraft " once they saw the other air carrier aircraft had cut us off and was holding in front of us. Cause: I understand that there are times when holding short of 8R can be confusing and that there are multiple taxiways that terminate at the hold short line with two holding points; but the professional action would be to contact the Tower and ask for the sequence. I feel this was very unsafe and that the other air carrier aircraft intentionally cut us off. Had my FO not noticed or if I had been taxing any faster than I was there would have been a collision; I estimate the other air carrier aircraft wing came within 1-2 feet of clipping our wing."

Second reporter narrative

During taxi to Runway 08R in MIA; we were on Taxiway M in sequence behind company that was given clearance to the runway. At that point we were past intersection M2 getting close to the taxiway merge with P. We were moving slowly to the hold short when out of nowhere from our left from Taxiway P from my left peripheral I saw movement. When I looked I saw an air carrier aircraft coming super fast on Taxiway P with no attempt of slowing down. I yelled to the CA careful careful careful" multiple times in an ascending tone in my voice and the CA brought the plane to stop. In my years of flying I've never seen an airplane that close while taxiing. I estimate we came within 5 feet or so from each other. The air carrier aircraft ended up cutting in front of us. The CA took over the communications real quick to ask what was our sequence for take off; the local Controller on frequency was expecting us to be the next for take off but quickly realized that an air carrier aircraft had cut in front of us and replied to us "I guess the other aircraft is now". That merge between Taxiway P and M could lead to a potential ground aircraft collision especially with unfamiliar crews in MIA. Luckily we were going slow enough that we were able to stop the airplane in time. I believe if we were going a little bit faster we would've definitely collided with the other aircraft. When this happened we were already monitoring the local Tower frequency on XXX.X and not sure what kind of ATC instruction was issued by the Ground Controller to the other aircraft. My suggestion to ATC in MIA is when using multiple taxiways to Runway 08R using Taxiway M and Taxiway Q is a better option because the taxiways will not converge."

How do I search flights by aircraft type on FlightFinder?

Pick an aircraft model — Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more — enter your origin airport, and FlightFinder shows every route that plane flies from there with live fares.

Which aircraft types can I filter by?

We support Boeing 737/747/757/767/777/787, the full Airbus A220/A319/A320/A321/A330/A340/A350/A380 family, Embraer E170/E175/E190/E195, Bombardier CRJ and Dash 8, and the ATR 42/72 turboprops.

Is FlightFinder free to use?

Search and schedules are free. Pro ($4.99/month, $39/year, or $99 one-time lifetime) unlocks the enriched flight card — on-time stats, CO₂ per passenger, amenities, live gate & weather — plus My Trips with push alerts.

Where does the route data come from?

Live schedules come from Amadeus, AeroDataBox and Travelpayouts. Observed routes (which aircraft actually flew a given city pair) are crowdsourced from adsb.lol ADS-B data under the Open Database License.
