ACR LGT FILES FOR AMENDED CLRNC RTE CHANGE FROM ATC PRIOR TO COORD WITH DISPATCH. RTE IS CONSIDERED OVERWATER AND ACFT WAS NOT OVERWATER EQUIPPED.
FLT WAS ROUTED MIA OVERLAND TLH-CEW-AEX. TO SAVE TIME I CONSIDERED J-58 ACROSS THE GULF. THIS RTE WAS LISTED AS ONE OF THOSE AVAILABLE ON OUR FLT PLAN; LEADING TO ASSUMING THE ACFT WAS OVERWATER EQUIPPED. THE AIRPLANE HAD BEEN PARKED AT THE CONCOURSE IN MIA; WHERE INTL FLTS (AND INTL-EQUIPPED ACFT) PARK. FLT OPS MANUAL WAS CHKED; AND IT READS: 'ALL OVERWATER EQUIPPED ACFT; WDB'S AND LGTS; FLOWN BY DOMESTIC ONLY QUALIFIED CREWS; ARE REQUIRED TO REMAIN WITHIN 162 NM OF THE NEAREST POINT OF LAND; ETC.' WE REQUESTED AND RECEIVED ATC CLRNC TO FLY SRQ-J58-AEX AT XY20Z. AN ACARS MESSAGE WAS SENT TO DISPATCH ADVISING OF THE RTE CHANGE AT XY24Z. DISPATCHER DID NOT READ AND ACKNOWLEDGE OUR MESSAGE UNTIL XY57Z; SAYING OUR ACFT WAS NOT OVERWATER EQUIPPED. BY THEN WE WERE WELL ALONG ON J-58. BETTER MARKINGS ON THE ACFT INST PANEL; LOGBOOK; AND EXTERIOR MIGHT GIVE US MORE WARNING; SINCE MANY WDB'S HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OVERWATER; AND MANY LGT'S ARE OVERWATER EQUIPPED. IT IS TOO EASY TO ASSUME THE ACFT IS EQUIPPED WITH RAFTS AND VESTS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 214326. WE CONTINUED FLT TO DEST BEING UNABLE TO TURN TO COAST BECAUSE OF MIL FIRING RANGES. UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG WAS MADE AND PHONE CALL TO DISPATCH.
