2024-08 · NASA ASRS report 2160873
Corporate flight crew reported making a sharp right turn on to exit off BFI Runway 32L as assigned by ATC but due to the close proximity of the parallel runways and lack of adequate space; the aircraft crossed the hold short line in the process.
We landed at Boeing Field Airport on Runway 32L. After landing; the Tower directed us to exit via Taxiway A4; which has a sharp right turn. The visibility from the left side of the cockpit wasn't ideal; making it difficult for me to gauge the distance between the two hold short lines. The runways are fairly close together; about 10 ft. apart; and I couldn't find this distance on the airport diagram. Additionally; the diagram does not indicate any hot spots; as the gap between the hold shorts is too narrow for an aircraft to exit a runway and hold short the other runway. This created some confusion; and by the time I exited the runway; I had inadvertently crossed into the next hold short area.I've been to this airport twice before; but from the opposite direction; and when exiting Runway 14R; there's no parallel runway at the end; which added to my confusion. It would be helpful if the airport diagram included a hot spot in the taxiways between the runways; along with guidance from the Tower regarding this.I sincerely apologize for the mistake and will exercise more caution in the future.
During landing rollout on Runway 32L; the Tower instructed us to exit via Taxiway A4 and to hold short of Runway 32R.As the turn to exit onto A4 from Runway 32L is approximately 120 degrees; I did not see that the distance between the hold short line for Runway 32R appeared to be less than 10 ft. from the hold line for Runway 32L; such that it is not possible to taxi clear of Runway 32L onto A4 without extending well over the adjacent hold line and into the protected area of Runway 32L. Upon seeing the proximity to the hold short line for 32R; I called 'stop' to the PF; but our momentum had already allowed the nose of the aircraft to cross the line by 5 to 10 ft.There are no indications on the published airport diagram to alert crews to this as a 'hot spot' or to indicate the distance between the hold lines. Better information and a better briefing to an unfamiliar airport would prevent this from recurring.
