CTLR ALLEGES THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY TRAINING ON HOW TO OPERATE NEW EQUIP WHEN THEY MOVED TO NEW TWR.

Narrative

ON JUL/XX/92 THE CTLRS BEGAN OPS FROM THE NEW DALLAS LOVE CTL TWR. THE EQUIP WE USED IN THE OLD CTL TWR WAS VERY OLD AND JUST ABOUT READY TO CROAK. THE NEW TWR HAS THE LATEST HIGH-TECHNOLOGY EQUIP AND RADAR. THE PROBLEM IS; NONE OF US CTLRS HAVE HAD ANY TRAINING ON THE NEW EQUIP. NO TRAINING AT ALL! WE BUILT THIS MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPLEX WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART ELECTRONICS AND ONLY A COUPLE OF SUPVRS WHO USED THIS EQUIP AT OTHER FACILITIES KNOW HOW TO USE IT. I COMPARE IT TO TAKING AN SMA PLT AND PUTTING HIM IN AN FGT AND SAY GO FOR IT. WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SEPARATING ACFT FOR THE FLYING PUBLIC AND WE AREN'T EVEN TRAINED HOW TO USE OUR EQUIP. OUR QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST HAS DONE NOTHING TOWARDS OUR TRAINING ON THE NEW EQUIP. HE HAS JUST A FEW MONTHS LEFT BEFORE RETIREMENT AND COULD CARE LESS. WE DID GET A BOOK IN THE TWR ON THE ICSS EQUIP. IT IS NOT VERY REALISTIC TO TELL ACFT TO STAND BY; I HAVE TO READ MY BOOK ON HOW TO USE MY EQUIP. OUR MGR DOESN'T SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT ANY OF THIS BECAUSE HE ONLY HAS A FEW MONTHS LEFT BEFORE RETIREMENT ALSO.
