2024-11 · NASA ASRS report 2184010
A320 flight crew reported engine failure inflight. Flight crew diverted and landed without incident.
At cruise with the First Officer in the rest room and an FAA inspector on the jump seat; we started getting a high number of ECAMS and CAUTION messages associated with ENGINE 1. The First Officer returned. The QRH led us to put ENGINE 1 at idle thrust. All ECAMS; CAUTION messages and the QRH were taken care of per the SOP.We [requested priority handling] and diverted to ZZZ.ATC; Dispatch; Flight Attendants and the passengers were all advised of the situation.I briefed the Flight Attendant. The cockpit was extremely busy and time was very limited. I started the APU.I set up for the ILS XXR at ZZZ; briefed the approach. Received the ATIS from ATC.Completed the approach and landing checklists.Approximately on a 3-mile final we got an EGT over limit on ENG 1. As the engine was already at idle and I didn't want a possible engine fire which could have turned the situation into a urgent situation with a possible evacuation and with seconds to landing we shut down ENGINE 1.We landed as normal; I asked CFR (Crash Fire Rescue) to inspect our ENGINE 1 for smoke and fire; which they did; I also asked them to follow us to the gate. The passengers deplaned as normal and I did a maintenance write up in the log book.I called Dispatch; operations and the Chief Pilot on duty and also spoke with 3 of Company's mechanics who happened to be in ZZZ.I saw the maintenance post flight report. There were 10 Warning/Maintenance status messages and 13 Failure messages.
