Synopsis

C402 pilot reported a main gear tire failed during landing. Pilot stopped the aircraft on runway and it was towed to the ramp.

Narrative

We were on a flight to ZZZ; with VFR weather conditions with no passengers on board. I assigned SIC as a PF on the flight as conditions permitted. It was his first flights in this role with me; so we briefed the approach and landing thoroughly in advance. My SIC did a really nice visual approach for runway X in ZZZ; that was stable on speed and configuration. We crossed the threshold at usual altitude at 100 to 110kt. The flare was a bit too high and long; although it would still allow us to land within landing zone; I decided to take over and perform the landing myself with verbal statement and positive control input. After touchdown during landing roll; I felt the aircraft had abrupt and intermittent deceleration and yawing tendency. I kept the center line and we stopped on the runway. The right main landing gear tire was blown. We advised traffic and airport on CTAF frequency; requested assistance from Company; contacted Operation Control and Maintenance Control. Stayed with the aircraft until it was towed to a ramp.
