Bonanza 33 pilot reported an engine failure abeam the runway approach end. Pilot maneuvered to a safe landing.
While proceeding direct to my home airport; ZZZ1; my engine suddenly developed roughness. Within 10 seconds; it began to shudder and smoke began filling the cabin. Oil pressure; which had been nominal; dropped to zero. I had earlier requested flight following from ZZZ Approach and I was roughly abeam the approach end of ZZZ Runway XX when the engine failure occurred. I [advised ATC] and requested an immediate landing. ZZZ Approach Controller responded promptly; offering any runway. I stated that I intended to land on Runway XX and was then cleared to do so. I pulled my propeller control full aft; lowered my landing gear; and executed a circle and slip maneuver to land without incident. By this point; my fuel system and magnetos were off; so I required a tug (provided by the FBO) to pull the aircraft off the runway. It was discovered that the oil pressure line had broken; causing oil to evacuate the crankcase. A connecting rod then broke; boring a hole through the top of the crankcase. My position at the time of the engine failure and proficiency in flying the aircraft combined with the prompt service of the air traffic controller resulted in a safe outcome.
