AN ACR CABIN ATTENDANT RPTED CABIN SMOKE TO THE COCKPIT CREW. PAX WERE DEPLANED AND THE FIRE CREW WAS CALLED.
AT DEP TIME (HT30 PM LCL DTW TIME); THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT NOTICED AN UNUSUAL ODOR IN THE CABIN AND THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE SMOKE BUT WASN'T SURE. I WENT BACK AND THERE WAS DEFINITELY AN UNUSUAL SMELL; BUT I DID NOT THINK THERE WAS SMOKE. WE TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONING PACKS OFF AND CALLED MAINT AND INFORMED THE GATE AGENT OF A DELAY. WITH THE PACKS OFF; THE SMELL DIDN'T SEEM TO GET BETTER. BUT SEEMED TO BE GETTING WORSE. I MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE PEOPLE TO DEPLANE. TOWARD THE END OF THE DEPLANING; THE SMELL WAS GETTING WORSE AND SMOKE WAS DEFINITELY VISIBLE IN THE CABIN. A MECH SHOWED UP AT THIS TIME; AND AFTER A SHORT TIME TRYING TO ASCERTAIN THE PROBLEM; WITH HIS CONCURRENCE I SHUT PWR OFF TO THE ACFT AND THE FIRE FIGHTERS WERE CALLED. AFTER THIS; THE SMOKE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY THICKER AND SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM BEHIND THE FRONT FLT ATTENDANT JUMP SEAT. THE FIRE FIGHTERS SOON ARRIVED AND TOOK OVER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 221243. THE LOCATION OF THE FIRE WAS EVENTUALLY LOCATED ON THE CIRCUIT BREAKER PANEL BEHIND THE FLT ATTENDANT JUMP SEAT ON THE BULKHEAD BTWN THE CABIN AND COCKPIT.
