THERE WERE 2 SITUATIONS HERE: AN SMA HAD TO RETURN AND LAND BECAUSE OF A LOSS OF OIL AND PRESSURE; AND A SECURITY OFFICER ASKED FOR THE PLT'S CERTIFICATE THAT COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY PRODUCED.

Narrative

ON 9/SAT/92; I DEPARTED LONG BEACH ARPT. ON CLBOUT ENRTE ABOUT 1500 FT MSL; I NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL LEAKING FROM THE SIDE AND THE TOP OF THE ENG COWLING; THEN I CHKED THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE; IT WAS FLUCTUATING BTWN LOW AND NORMAL. TO SAVE THE ENG; I SHUT IT DOWN AND FEATHERED AND CALLED LONG BEACH TWR THAT I WAS HAVING AN ENG PROBLEM AND I NEEDED TO LAND. THE TWR CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 25R. AFTER I LANDED AND CLRED THE RWY I CONTACTED GND CTL AND TOLD HIM THAT I CANNOT TAXI ON ONE ENG (1960 SMA IS NOT ABLE TO TAXI ON ONE ENG). THE GND REPLIED: NO PROBLEM SHUT IT DOWN AND I WILL CALL FOR SOMEONE TO HELP YOU TO PARKING. AT THAT TIME; THE LONG BEACH SECURITY ARRIVED; AND ASKED ME FOR MY CERTIFICATE; SO I WENT TO BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT TO GET IT FROM MY JACKET SIDE POCKET; ONLY THAT MY WALLET WAS NOT IN MY JACKET; I TOLD THE OFFICER THAT I KNOW I HAD IT IN MY JACKET; BUT I CANNOT FIND IT. THEN I LOOKED IN MY CAR'S GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND IT WAS NOT THERE EITHER. I ASKED THE SECURITY OFFICER TO WAIT I WILL SEND SOMEONE HOME TO LOOK FOR IT; HE SAID I DO NOT HAVE TIME AND VERY QUICKLY HE PROCEEDED TO WRITE ME A CITATION. AFTER THE OFFICER LEFT; WE STARTED TO GET OUR THINGS OUT OF THE ACFT; I FOUND MY WALLET ON THE FLOOR OF THE ACFT IN THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT. WHEN I GOT INTO THE ACFT I HANDED MY JACK TO MY GIRLFRIEND AND TOLD HER TO HOLD IT. SHE WENT AHEAD AND PUT IT IN THE BACK OF THE ACFT; AND THE WALLET MUST HAVE FALLEN OUT OF MY POCKET. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY UPSET WHEN I LANDED; AND SECURITY OFFICER WAS PUTTING PRESSURE ON ME TO SHOW HIM MY CERTIFICATE. IN ACTUALITY MY CERTIFICATE WAS ON BOARD THE ACFT; ONLY I WAS NOT ABLE TO PRESENT IT TO THE OFFICER DUE TO THE SITUATION. TO ELIMINATE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM FROM OCCURRING IN THE FUTURE; I WILL PAY VERY CLOSE ATTN TO WHEREABOUTS OF MY CERTIFICATE WHEN I AM FLYING.
