B737 flight crew reported debris on the runway from a failed tire of the previous aircraft that landed.
As we checked in with ZZZ tower we overheard the conversation of a citation aircraft that had landed and was reporting a flat tire. The controller asked the pilot if he needed assistance and if able to continue taxing. The pilot responded able to continue taxing clear of the runway but will need a tug to the FBO from the taxiway. This conversation took place after we checked in and we were awaiting landing clearance. At approximately 800-700 ft AGL we received the landing clearance with the option to go around. As we were low and the previous pilot reported just a flat tire and was able to continue taking cleared my assessment was that the landing was the safest course of action. Since we were low and stable I wanted to focus again on the path first. As we landed we decelerated Normally and saw a piece of the tire on the runway. First officer steered the plane left of the debris. We informed ATC that it wasn't just a flat tire but the rubber of the wheel was on the runway. If better information had been given by the preceding aircraft I would have chosen to execute a go around and land on a different runway. After parking checklist was completed I decided to do a post flight inspection of the aircraft to ensure none of the debris made contact with any part of the airplane. As I was doing the walk around I saw maintenance performing a post flight inspection as well and I informed him of the event we both determined nothing had been affected on the aircraft. No write up was made.
During our visual approach in ZZZ runway XXL we were following a private jet (Citation XL) also landing on runway XXL. After that this aircraft vacated the runway; the crew reported that they had a flat tire. The tower gave the option to continue or cancel the approach and we chose to continue. We landed safely on the runway and during our deceleration phase we saw debris of a tire on the right side of the center line. We avoided the debris and reported this to ATC. After landing the captain did an inspection of the plane and found nothing abnormal.
