Synopsis

MLG BEGAN TKOF ON WRONG RWY AT FNT AND WAS TOLD BY TWR TO ABORT.

Narrative

AFTER TAXI TO RWY 27; WE WERE DELAYED WAITING FOR OUT TKOF WT AND BAL. WE WERE CLRED ONTO RWY 27 AND HAD TO MAKE A L TURN TO BACK TAXI. CAPT WAS LINING UP THE ACFT I WAS READING THE COMPLETE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. SINCE WE WERE DELAYED FROM COMPLETING ANY OF THE ITEMS ON THE LIST UNTIL WE HAD OUR WT AND BAL. THIS DISTR CAUSED ME TO BE HEAD DOWN THE WHOLE TIME WHILE THE CAPT MANEUVERED THE ACFT INTO POS. WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF THIS WHOLE TIME SO AS SOON AS I COMPLETED THE CHKLIST THE CAPT GAVE ME THE AIRPLANE AND WE COMMENCED THE TKOF ROLL. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE TWR TOLD US TO ABORT OUR TKOF BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE WRONG RWY. RWY 23 INSTEAD OF 27. CAUSES OF THIS INCIDENT ARE NUMEROUS. ONE WAS THE CLOSE PROX AND LAYOUT OF THE 2 RWYS IS CONFUSING; I WASN'T ABLE TO BACK UP MY CAPT DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF BEING CLRED FOR TKOF; RUNNING THE COMPLETE CHKLIST; AND RUNNING BEHIND SCHEDULE; AS WELL AS A SHORT NIGHT REST ON A TRIP SCHEDULED AS AN ALL NIGHT ON DUTY WITH BARELY 4 HRS SLEEP IN BTWN SEGMENTS BECAUSE OF DELAYS. THE TWR WAS ALSO QUESTIONING US TO SEE IF WE WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE OUR DEP CLRNC SLOT. THE COMBINATION OF FATIGUE; THE HURRIED PACE OF COMPLETING CHKLISTS AND TRYING TO MAKE AN EDC TIME; AND THE CLOSE PROX OF THE 2 RWYS; ALL CONTRIBUTED TO THIS INCIDENT.
