Synopsis

R ENG SHUTDOWN DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION.

Narrative

ACFT DEPARTED HOME STATION WITH THE R MAIN FUEL GAUGE INOP (ALLOWED BY THE MEL); WITH THE GAUGE OPERATING FOR AUX FUEL LEVELS. THE R GAUGE INDICATED OFF SCALE LOW FOR MAIN TANK LEVEL; AND WAS CARRIED OVER BY MAINT IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK. THE ACFT DEPARTED WITH FUEL GAUGES INDICATING APPROX 1200 POUNDS; IN L MAIN; OFF SCALE LOW IN R MAIN; AND APPROX 270 POUNDS; IN EACH OF THE AUX TANKS. THE ACFT LOG REFLECTED FULLY SVCED. R WING SUMP DRAIN WAS CHKED. ACFT FLEW 2.8 HR MISSION WITH ONLY LOSS OF #2 COM RADIO (CIRCUIT BREAKER POPPED -- WOULD NOT RESET). AT FBO AT INTERMEDIATE STOP A FUEL LOAD OF FULL MAINS AND 40 GALLONS IN THE AUX TANKS WAS REQUESTED. REQUIRED FUELING SEQUENCE IS MAIN THEN AUX'S. APPROX ONE HR LATER ACFT DEPARTED WITH FUEL GAUGES INDICATING APPROX 1200 POUNDS IN L MAIN; OFF SCALE LOW IN R MAINS; AND APPROX 70 POUNDS ON EACH AUX TANK. THE FUEL SLIP REFLECTED AN UP LOAD F 185 GALLONS. R WING SUMP DRAIN WAS CHKED. ACFT DEPARTED ON MISSION; WHILE ENRTE AUTOPLT; YAW DAMPER; AND ELECTRIC TRIM WERE LOST. APPROX 2 HRS AND 20 MINS INTO THE FLT THE #2 ENG TORQUE AND FUEL FLOW BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE EXCESSIVELY AND THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND AN UNEVENTFUL SINGLE ENG LNDG WAS MADE AT TEXARKANA REGIONAL. UPON EXAMINATION BY MAINT THE ENG WAS FOUND TO OF QUIT DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. I SHOULD HAVE PAID CLOSER ATTN TO THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF UPLOAD AT THE INTERMEDIATE STOP; AND SHOULD HAVE PRECALCULATED WHAT I FELT TO BE AN ADEQUATE FUEL LOAD.
