AN MLG HAD A LITTLE EXCURSION WITH ICE ON A TAXIWAY AT DTW. THE RWY HAD BEEN PROPERLY PREPARED FOR TFC; BUT NOT ALL TAXIWAY.
WE WERE CLRED TO THE TERMINAL AREA VIA TAXIWAY F. MY TAXI SPD WAS SLOW AND DELIBERATE. AFTER XING RWY 3C/21C; A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT TO THE R WAS REQUIRED TO STAY CTRED ON THE TAXIWAY. USE OF UP TO FULL NOSE GEAR STEERING DID NOT ALTER ACFT DIRECTION. USE OF UP TO FULL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE DID NOT SLOW OR STOP ACFT. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED BY THE L MAIN GEAR LEAVING THE PAVED SURFACE AND IMMEDIATELY COMING TO REST AT A POINT JUST E OF TAXIWAY X. TAXIWAY F; BTWN RWY 3C/21C AND TAXIWAY X WAS EXTREMELY SLIPPERY WITH BRAKING ACTION NIL AT THIS POINT. WHEN I TELEPHONED BACK TO THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO VERIFY THAT NO ONE WAS INJURED; THEY INDICATED THAT NO ONE WAS AWARE THAT THE L LNDG GEAR WAS OFF THE TAXIWAY. NO ONE WAS HURT IN ANY WAY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 226087: THE ACFT BECAME UNCTLABLE ON A SHEET OF CLR ICE. ACFT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO TURN INPUTS OR BRAKING EFFORTS. THERE WAS NO ACFT DAMAGE. OUR RWY WAS ADEQUATELY SANDED AND/OR DEICED; THE TAXIWAY WAS NOT. I PUT THE BLAME FOR THIS ENTIRELY ON THE DETROIT METRO ARPT AUTHORITY AND/OR WAYNE COUNTY FOR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN SAFE TAXIWAY CONDITIONS. POOR LIGHTING/NIGHT CONDITIONS WERE ALSO DEFINITELY A FACTOR.
